Mylee

Mylee was my world.  She was my heart dog and I’m so thankful that she came into my life.  She adored being dressed up, told she was beautiful, and sitting at the kitchen table with us at every meal. 

She was the second Cavalier I ever owned and had such a big impact on me and my future breeding program.  She was supposed to be my foundation to get started with in breeding.  Instead, she taught me a ton about Cavalier health.  She was the sole reason I got so involved in learning about CM/SM and later, have spent so much time educating others about it.  I never wanted another Cavalier to be in such pain and discomfort if it could be prevented.   

When I first got Mylee, CM/SM was just being discovered and researched in our breed.  There was a lot we didn’t know.  Mylee came home to me at 14 weeks old.  By 16 weeks old she was scratching and screaming in pain.  She started medications for CM/SM at 9 months old and by 12 months old had her first MRI.  I spent hours researching everything I could that would help her.   Through a chance meeting in a dog park in London, Ontario, I met another Cavalier owner named Karen who would then turn into a good friend.  Karen worked with MRI at the hospitals in London and together, a lower cost MRI screening program for breeders was developed.  I still coordinate this clinic today through the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Canada.  If it wasn’t for Mylee, I wouldn’t have cared to learn.
