At the end of November, we attended the Aurora Kennel Club Show at the International Centre in Toronto. Every year, it’s held in conjunction with the All About Pet Show and is an opportunity for anyone who loves dogs to visit and enjoy learning about different breeds, and what happens at a dog show. There’s always a ton of people and noise, but the Cavalier entry is normally large and I always have a great time shopping with friends after the showing is complete.
This year several of my dogs were entered. It was Emi and Rosee’s first show. Rueben who is co-owned between Lori and me, was out getting experience. Skye showed in specials for the first time in 3 years, and Duke and Remy searched for their last points to earn their Canadian championships. It was a very successful weekend for everyone. Skye picked up 10 points towards her grand championship and now only needs a few points to finish her title. Rosee and Rueben ended up with reserve winners several times over the weekend, in competition. After being a bit overwhelmed with the atmosphere on the first two days, Emi ended up with her first points toward her championship and picked up a 4-point best of winners major on the last day. Duke is now known as CH Barrington’s Heat of the Night and completed his Canadian championship by earning winners dog on Sunday. Remy, now CH Embee’s Obsidian Stardust, CGN also picked up several points and earned his championship with a best of winners, 4 point major. He was then moved up to the specials class and earned several points towards his grand championship with select dog majors the rest of the weekend. I’m very proud of my crew and how they handled everything.
It’s so nice to go to a show with good friends and spend the weekend together. The dog world can be so competitive and cruel at times. I’m very lucky to have people in my breed that I adore. I’m not sure when or where our next local show will be. Possibly Guelph to prepare for the ACKCSC National Specialty in Cape Cod.
